Cookie Policy
What we store on your device, why, and how to refuse all of it without losing anything.
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage and pixels — do much the same job. They let a website remember something between one page and the next, or between one visit and the next. This policy covers all of them.
2. The short version
We use very few. We set no advertising cookies of our own, we do not build advertising profiles from your visit, and we do not sell anything derived from your browsing. If you press Reject on the notice in the corner of the page, everything that is not strictly necessary stays switched off and the publication works exactly as it did before.
3. What we use, precisely
Strictly necessary
These are required for the publication to function and to be secure. They cannot be switched off, and under UK law they do not require consent.
- Consent record — stores your accept or reject choice in your browser's local storage under the key
stonereview.consent.v1, so we do not ask again on every page. It contains one word and nothing else. Kept until you clear your browser storage. - Security and load balancing — short-lived cookies set by our hosting provider to route requests and to protect against abuse. Session duration.
Analytics (optional — only with consent)
If you accept, we may use a privacy-respecting analytics measure to count page views and understand which reviews are read. It is configured so that IP addresses are truncated before storage, no cross-website tracking takes place, and no attempt is made to identify you. Typical retention is 13 months. If you reject, none of this is loaded.
Advertising
We set no advertising or retargeting cookies. We do not operate an advertising network and we do not share your browsing with one from these pages.
4. Third parties
Web fonts on this publication are requested from Google Fonts, which necessarily receives the network request needed to deliver the font file. No cookie is set by that request. Everything else on the page — stylesheets, scripts, images and logos — is served from our own domain.
When you follow an outbound link to a reviewed operator or a support organisation, that destination sets its own cookies under its own policy, over which we have no control. Read the policy of any website you move on to.
5. How to change or withdraw your choice
Your choice is stored in your browser and nowhere else. To change it, clear this website's data through your browser settings; the notice will appear again on your next visit and you can choose differently.
You can also block or delete cookies for any website through your browser directly:
- Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies
- Edge — Settings › Cookies and permissions
- Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security
- Safari — Preferences › Privacy
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of this publication working, but blocking everything else has no effect on what you can read.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour browser signals that express a preference against tracking. If your browser sends one, optional measurement is not loaded regardless of what the consent notice records.
7. Legal basis
We rely on the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation. Strictly necessary storage relies on the statutory exemption; anything else is set only with your consent, which you may withdraw at any time as described above. Where cookie data amounts to personal data, our Privacy Policy explains how it is handled.
8. Contact
